How to Generate and Use Your Sermon Shots API Key

Overview

The Sermon Shots API lets you connect your account to other tools and platforms — like automation software, custom websites, or third-party integrations. With it, you can upload videos, retrieve content, and pull clips, images, and more, all programmatically.

Step 1: Get Your API Key

Your API key is what authorizes you to access your Sermon Shots account through the API. Here's how to find it:

Log in to your Sermon Shots account.
Click your profile name in the bottom left sidebar.
Select API Keys.
Click New Key, give it a name, then click Create Key.
Copy your entire API key and save it somewhere safe.
Click Confirm.

⚠️ Important: Sermon Shots does not save your API key after you confirm. Once you leave the screen, you will only see the last few digits. Make sure to copy and store it securely before closing the window — such as in a password manager or secure notes app.

📝 Note: You can create up to 10 API keys on your account. If you are building a tool on behalf of other Sermon Shots users, each user will need to supply their own API key. Each key is tied to a specific account.

Step 2: Authorize Your Requests

Once you have your API key, paste it into the authorization field in the API documentation to authenticate your requests. This tells the API which account to use.

Step 3: Explore What You Can Do

With your API key authorized, you can:

Upload videos by providing the video URL, a file name, and your preferred settings
Retrieve your video list and get the IDs for all your uploaded videos
Pull generated content from any video using its ID — including summaries, blog posts, discussion guides, quotes, titles, and transcriptions
Access downloadable assets like clips, quote images, and thumbnails using the video ID
