Step 5: Access Plugin Settings

In your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings → SermonShots

Step 6: Get Your API Key
  • Log in to your Sermon Shots account.
  • Go to the left-hand sidebar and click your profile name.
  • Select API Keys.

Step 7: Paste Your API Key into WordPress

Head back to your WordPress tab and paste the API key you just copied into the field provided. Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the key, as this can cause connection issues.

Step 9: Test the Connection

To verify everything is working correctly, go to the WordPress editor and test adding a Sermon Shots block:

  • Go to the left-hand sidebar and hover over Posts, then click Add Post.
  • Enter your post title in the title field.
  • Click the Add Block button (the plus icon).
  • Search for and select Sermon Shots.
  • In the Sermon Shots block that appears, you should see a dropdown menu on the right side for videos.
  • Click the dropdown arrow, and you should see your sermon videos listed.

If your videos appear in the video list selection, congratulations! You've successfully connected the Sermon Shots plugin using the API.

That's it! Your WordPress site is now integrated with Sermon Shots, and you're ready to start adding sermon content to your posts.

Once configured, you can:

  • Browse your content library directly inside WordPress

  • Customize layouts without any coding knowledge
  • Auto-sync new content as it's created in Sermon Shots

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

"Failed to Load Video List" Error

If you encounter a "Failed to Load Video List" message when trying to access your sermon content in the WordPress editor, this typically indicates a connection issue between WordPress and your Sermon Shots account.

Quick Fix: Reset the Block and Plugin

The fastest way to resolve this issue is to refresh the block and plugin connection:

  • Delete the Sermon Shots block - In the WordPress editor, click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner of the Sermon Shots block, then select Remove Block.

  • Deactivate and reactivate the plugin - Go to Plugins in your WordPress dashboard, find the SermonShots – Repurposed Block plugin, click Deactivate, then click Activate again.

  • Add a new Sermon Shots block - Return to your post or page editor, click the Add Block button (plus icon), search for Sermon Shots, and add the block again.
  • Test the video list - Click the dropdown arrow in the block's video selection menu. Your sermon videos should now appear.

This process resets the connection between WordPress and your Sermon Shots account and resolves most loading issues.
